Vision Long Island is partnering with other Long Island environmental, civic, public health and business groups in what may be the largest grass roots public awareness campaign ever on Long Island. The collaborative is working to make every Long Island homeowner aware of the many State, local government and utility sponsored programs that are available to provide assistance in making homes more energy efficient, and urging all Long Islanders to take advantage of these programs. To this end Vision Long Island is contacting all of our members, supporters and friends with the following information.

Our Nation just celebrated Independence Day, now you can join the movement for Energy Independence. For decades, American people and politicians have called for reducing our reliance on foreign fuels. Now, Long Islanders are leading the way with real action to reduce our energy demand.

The good news is that the way to reduce our reliance on expensive, polluting, foreign fuels is well known, technically feasible and affordable. Energy efficiency is the quickest, cleanest and most cost effective way to meet our energy needs.

The better news is that making your home more efficient saves you money, creates jobs, and bolsters the local economy.

The best news is that the Long Island Green Homes Consortium is here to help you get a free or low-cost comprehensive home energy audit by an accredited contractor, rebates for home energy improvements from government and utilities, and low-interest financing from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

Get started today! Visit longislandgreenhomes.org, find out how to make your home more comfortable, less costly to heat and cool, and more valuable.

It's easier than ever to:

The Long Island Green Homes Consortium is here to help!

The Long Island Green Homes Consortium consists of the Towns of Babylon, Brookhaven, Huntington, Islip, North Hempstead, Smithtown and Southampton, along with the Community Development Corporation of Long Island, and the Sustainability Institute at Molloy College. The Consortium is funded by a U.S. Department of Energy Better Buildings grant through NYSERDA. The goal of the Coalition is to help Long Islanders participate in programs that will improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

Over the Past Four Decades, Every U.S. President has Called for Energy Independence.

"We simply must balance our demand for energy with our rapidly shrinking resources. By acting now we can control our future instead of letting the future control us."
- Jimmy Carter, 1977

Energy independence is the best preparation America can make for the future.”
- Ronald Reagan, 1982

We have it in our power to act right here, right now. I propose $6 billion in tax cuts and research and developments to encourage innovation, renewable energy, fuel-efficient cars, and energy-efficient homes.”
- Bill Clinton, 1998

"America is addicted to oil, which is often imported from unstable parts of the world. The best way to break this addiction is through technology."
- George W. Bush, 2006

“Our goal should be, in 10 year’s time, we are free of dependence on Middle Eastern oil. And we can do it.”
- Barack Obama, 2008

In the past, when the U.S. has started to take steps towards efficiency, oil prices have been manipulated globally to make energy cheaper, undercutting those efforts. Now with oil prices at historic highs and showing no sign of dropping significantly, our resolve to reduce our energy demand must be firm. There has been enough talk, the time to act on our good intentions is now!
