We need your recommendations on local and regional infrastructure projects as part of the 2015 NY state budget.
$400 million was set aside by NYS senator Dean Skelos for LI infrastructure projects. An additional $150 million was set aside for LI as part of the $5 billion settlement with banks and financial institutions. This brings a total of $550 million in new money in this year’s budget for LI projects. Additionally, varying state agencies have resources in their budgets that are on an annual basis directed to LI. This is not new money but these funds have the potential to be applied towards infrastructure projects as well.
The Long Island Lobby Coalition has been in Albany lobbying for community enhancing infrastructure projects that have the incentives and help direct downtown growth and while we are far from getting our fair share, we are glad to see progress this year.
It is important now to ensure that the state’s funding is directed to communities and regional projects that have spent years deliberately planning, building consensus and ensuring market viability. As co-chairs of the Long Island Lobby Coalition our organizations, we and many others are speaking with town supervisors, local mayors, local chambers of commerce and local revitalization organizations, as well as working with county and state officials to ensure the best use of these funds. These funds allow us the opportunity to advance our island’s many needs for new and improved sewer infrastructure.
So here’s where we need your help. We want to be sure that all worthwhile projects receive full and fair review from NYS. In assembling our list we realize we may be missing some of your projects.
Please forward information on your projects for consideration at info@visionlongisland.org.
