Please join us for our 5th annual Smart Growth Summit. Our schedule of events includes Steve Maun, President of the LeylandAlliance, which has had success in implementing new, walkable town centers around the region in a suburban setting. Richard Kessel Chairman/CEO of LIPA will be on hand to help us integrate clean energy issues into the discussion of Smart Growth. Congressman Tim Bishop will be joining us as he sits on the Transportation Committee which will play a critical role in funding the necessary infrastructure to make our vision for Smart Growth a reality. Lastly but most importantly we will be hearing from our Town Supervisors in our annual “State of the Towns” panel discussion. As we know, all land use decisions are decided on the Town and Village level. We need their leadership to implement Smart Growth projects. Panel discussions include transportation, energy, education, taxes, sewers, infrastructure, codes, regulations, housing, gentrification, labor and public process. All of this has been covered before. Now it’s time for action. This year’s Summit will feature specific recommendations and action steps in these critical areas needed to advance Smart Growth. This 5th Annual Summit is about confronting challenges and embracing creative, hard-hitting solutions. We like to cheer when good projects are moving forward, but we also need to be honest about what’s not happening, and the work that needs to be done to achieve the goal of creating vibrant, healthy places on Long Island.
